Welcome!

What is Sophia is Voracious?
Sophia is Voracious, a weekly newsletter, is a practical and analytical — and a little bit snarky — take on trends and news in food, beverage, and entertaining. In these newsletters, I focus on where our food comes from, how we can make better decisions about it (nutritionally or through recipes), and other news that we should know about the industry from an investor- and consumer-lens.
Whether you’re looking for how to win Friendsgiving with stand-out dishes, how to plan a dinner party when everyone is California sober, or where to eat in vacation, you’re in the right place.
My notes will always be free and include:
⏳ <750 words (save time for eating)
🔥 introduce you to new insight, technique, or ingredient
🌟 worth > the effort
Occasionally, I also send:
📚🎥 content recommendations (and pairings)
🏗️ important industry coverage
😻 pictures of my cat
Subscribe to get my takes wherever you want them — on Substack, on email, on Instagram, or occasionally on TikTok. Sophia is Voracious will always be free — all I ask in return is a ❤️, a share, feedback on what you like, and most importantly, what you don’t like.
Who am I?
I am not a professional chef, recipe developer, or food stylist, nor do I want to be. I’ve spent most of my career outside of the kitchen—on Zoom meetings. But I’ve worked in big tech, on some of the biggest acquisitions of the last decade, with some of the most exciting startups and venture capital firms in the US, and been published in Harvard Business Review. My “secret sauce” is that I am really good at identifying problems and figuring out ways to solve them scrappily, then scalably.
As a voracious consumer of food (and food content), I’ve struggled to find a trusted source for how to maximize my favorite ingredients—or more commonly, the random radish in my farm box that I’m convinced will help me do my part for the environment and my skin—without spending three hours doom-scrolling and agonizing through hundreds of recipes on every social media platform and blog, and texting a core group of “foodie” friends for their recommendations. Now, you’ll get the output of all that research (and more about what other problems I’m trying to solve in this area!) on a somewhat regular basis.
